Coaching Education Workshop

The Coaching Education program at Emporia State University will host the fourth annual “More Than the X’s and O’s A- Coaching Education Workshop” on April 10, 2012.  The workshop focuses on character education, leadership, communication, motivation, sports psychology, team building, and team management. 

The workshop this year will feature speakers from the Positive Coaching Alliance, whose mission is to provide all youth and high school athletes a positive, character-building youth sports experience.

The ESU HPER Club

is hosting the 2nd annual Camp Alexander Trail Racing Series out at Camp Alexander. It will be on Saturday, April 21. The first event will be the 5k walk/run at 8:30. This race is two loops through the trails. The next event will be the beginners division 10k bike race starting at 9:00. The final event of the day will be a 20k bike race starting at 9:30. Both bike races will combine riding through the trails and on the gravel roads surrounding Camp Alexander. Cost of the 5k walk/run is $15.00 for pre-registrants (pre-registration ends Wednesday, April 11) and $20.00 for anyone who registers after that day. The bike races both cost $25.00. All early registrants receive a free t-shirt. Best Practices in Coaching class

Emporia State University HPER department will offer a graduate course (Best Practices in Coaching) in the summer of 2012 with the major focus of the course attending and meeting at the 2012 National Coaching Conference in Indianapolis, Indiana on June 18-21. 

The 2012 National Coaching Conference will focus on Long Term Athlete Development and providing coaches with practical information and tools that they can use to develop, expand, and improve their programs. 

At the National Coaching Conference students meet face-to-face with fellow distance learning students in the Emporia State University graduate program.

Students will have the opportunity to tour coaching educated related facilities such as the NCAA Hall of Honor, Lucas Oil Stadium and the National Institute of Sport.
