Graduate FAQs

1. How do I apply for the Graduate Program

To apply to the ESU HPER Graduate program, you need to complete an application found at the follow link (Graduate Application). You need 3 letters of recommendation, an official transcript and a resume. All of these materials need to be sent to the Graduate office, Box 4003, 1200 Commerical, Emporia State University, Emporia, KS 66801

2. Will this MS degree provide me with a teacher license/certification?

No, our masters degree is NOT our teacher licensure program, that is our undergraduate program and it is not online. However, with that being said, each state department of education decides on what they will accept for certification. My suggestion is to show our graduate program to your State Department of Education and see if meets certification/licensure requirements. They would be the ones to make that determination.

3. Is this masters degree accredited?

Absolutely. We were the first fully online accredited masters degre in physical education in the United States. We have been online since 1996. To see our accreditations, please click on the following link - (Accreditations)

4. How can I get financial aid?

You may apply for financial through the financial aid office. If you need to contact somone about questions related to financial aid, please email the aid office

5. If I missed the admission deadline, can I still apply?

Yes, but your materials will be rolled to the next admission deadline. So if you missed the deadline for fall classes, your materials will be reviewed on the next admission deadline and if accepted, you would be able to start the following semester (spring in this case).

6. How do classes work?

All classes are presented to the students through Blackboard, the class portal for ESU. However, each class is different and unique to the personality of the professor teaching the course. Faculty members in HPER use podcasts, powerpoints, discussion boards, live video feeds, electronic content material, timed quizzes and tests, blogs, etc. in their courses. Classes in our program are very interactive between faculty and students and among the students in the class.

7. How much does it cost to attend ESU?

Information on tuition and fees can be found at the following link (Tuition and Fees)
