Minutes
PRESENT: Tony Ambrosio, Paul Bland, Barbara Bleeker, Gary Bleeker, Ryann Brooks, Alexis Downs, David Edds, Ed Emmer (proxy for Ellen Hansen), Kevin Johnson, Alli Jordan, Steve Neill, Dennis Schmitt, and Gary Wyatt.
I. Minutes of October 10, 2007 were approved.
II. Announcements:
None
III. Old Business:
a. G. Bleeker shared the Kansas Board of Regents “Five Strategic Questions for Higher Education in Kansas” with council members.
b. G. Bleeker distributed proposed document: “General Education: Mission, Goals, and Learner Outcomes” which was drafted by G. Bleeker and Dean Brown. Council approved deleting first sentence and moving the second sentence to the Mission Statement to read “This Program is the core of the college experience at ESU and complements a student’s major program of study.”
Council unanimously approved to remove “Learner Outcomes” for future editing, and add “General Education Mission and Goals” document to the proposed General Education Program.
c. G. Bleeker shared memo concerning 2 proposed clarifications to the proposed General Education program and endorsed by the CTE.
d. 1. Council unanimously approved clarifying the IT325 requirement for Elementary Education and as an option for Secondary Education. (G. Bleeker will send proposed wording to members for review)
2. Council unanimously approved that under the “Social and Behavioral Sciences” section, elementary education majors will take PY100 plus one Political Science course and Secondary Education majors will take PY100 plus any other course from this section. (G. Bleeker will send proposed wording to members for review)
e. Council unanimously approved the General Education Program.
f. G. Bleeker shared memo from Steven Brown, Dean of Liberal Arts and Sciences, which supported approval of the General Education Program.
IV. New Business:
a. G. Bleeker shared Fall 2007 GTA mid term evaluations and Council voted unanimously to receive them.
