General Education Council

August 22, 2007@ 3:00 p.m.

Minutes

PRESENT:     Tony Ambrosio, Paul Bland, Barbara Bleeker, Gary Bleeker, Alexis Downs, David Edds, Ed Emmer (proxy for Ellen Hansen), Kevin Johnson, Steve Neill, and Gary Wyatt.

Guest: Dean Steven Brown

I.       Members of the Council introduced themselves.

II.      Gary Wyatt unanimously elected Council Chair and Paul Bland unanimously                   elected Council Vice Chair for the 2007-2008 academic year.

III.       Minutes of May 9, 2007 were approved.

IV.       Announcements:

          G. Bleeker announced that Dean Sobieski and Vice President Schwenn approved           the Foreign Languages Proficiency Policy Proposal 5/10/07 and 5/11/07                   respectively.

V.        Informational Items:

            a.         Council accepted the “General Education Council Summary 2006-2007.”

            b.         G. Bleeker distributed copies of the “Council Member List”

            c.         G. Bleeker distributed copies of the General Education Council                                  Constitution and underscored the Council attendance policy as detailed                         in section V. Rules of Procedure of the constitution.

            e.         G. Bleeker distributed a copy of the meeting dates for Fall 2007.

            f.          G. Bleeker informed members that Council materials could be found on                         the College of LA&S homepage on the General Education Council link.

VI.       Old Business:

            A.       Council unanimously approved 5 hour courses: AB110/111 and AS110/111                       to fulfill BA Cultural Diversity section of general education program.

            B.       G. Bleeker distributed progress reports on and review of proposed                               general education program and supporting documentation.  Discussion                       ensued.

The meeting adjourned at 4:52 p.m.
