Minutes
PRESENT: Tony Ambrosio, Paul Bland, Barbara Bleeker, Gary Bleeker, Malonne Davies, George Durler, Nicole Gannon, Ellen Hansen, Nancy Hite, Alfredo Montalvo (proxy for Gary Wyatt), Steve Neill, and Dennis Schmitt.

I. Minutes of February 28, 2007 were approved.
II. Announcements:G. Bleeker reported that LA&S has a new Dean of Liberal Arts & Sciences; Dr. Steven Brown from the University of Mississippi. He will start July 1, 2007.
III. New Business:
A. Jim Williams and Lynn Hobson presented, for discussion, CW101: Freshman Seminar (Student Success) for inclusion in the Working Draft General Education Program.
B. G. Bleeker reminded the Council that Modern Languages was put in the Humanities to streamline with the Board of Regents’ revised transfer and articulation program.
1. Council unanimously agreed not to include CW101: Freshman Seminar (Student Success) in the Draft Proposed General Education Program.
Council will meet on May 9 (MU Phi Xi) to consider feedback from departments.2. General Education Council unanimously agreed to leave HI112: U.S. History since 1877 in the Working Draft General Education Program.
3. General Education Council unanimously agreed not to include CE250: Construction Your Career in the Working Draft General Education Program.
4. General Education Council unanimously agreed (1 abstention) not to include AC223: Financial Accounting in the Working Draft General Education.
5. PI256 Logic and POXXX were removed from the Working Draft General Education Program.
6. General Education Council agreed to change VI. Contemporary Citizenship to Applied Studies and change “…(10) hours of Modern Languages” to “….(10) hours of one Modern Language”
7. General Education Council unanimously agreed to change I. Core Skills (12-14 Credit Hours) to I. Core Skills (15-17 Credit Hours) and add Information Technology
CSXXX Fluency with Information Technology 3 Hrs
IS113 Intro to Micro Compute Applications 3 Hrs
Or an approved technology course in the discipline “Working Draft” of General Education program was approved.
“Working Draft” of General Education program will be distributed to departments via chairs for departmental review. Responses from departments need to be sent to G. Bleeker by May 4.
