PDK Room

Minutes

PRESENT:     Tony Ambrosio, Paul Bland, Barbara Bleeker, Gary Bleeker, Ryann Brooks, Alexis Downs,  David Edds, Ellen Hansen, Kevin Johnson, Steve Neill, Jonathan Rivers, Dennis Schmitt, and Gary Wyatt.

Visitor: Margaret Rasmussen, reporter with the Bulletin

I.          Minutes of November 14, 2007 were approved.

II.         Announcements:

  • Jim Roach, Chair of Academic Affairs Committee of Faculty Senate will attend today’s meeting to give a report on the committee’s actions.

  • President Michael Lane will attend the February 27 meeting to share with us his views on assessment of general education.

III.       New Business:

a.         Jim Roach reported that the Academic Affairs Committee voted on the revised General Education Program.  The vote was two for, three against, and five abstentions.  He isn’t sure at this time how faculty senate will proceed in reviewing the General Education Program.  The ESU Policies and Procedures Handbook states that “if warranted, the Faculty Senate has the right to consider and override decisions made by the General Education Council.”

III.       Old Business:

a.         A number of issues/concerns surrounding the assessment of the learning outcomes of general education were shared and discussed in preparation for President Lane’s visit at the next meeting.

The meeting adjourned at 4:20 p.m.

                                                    Respectfully submitted,

                                                    Gerrit Bleeker

                                                    Director of General Education
