General Education Council

Minutes

PRESENT:     Tony Ambrosio, Paul Bland, Barbara Bleeker, Gary Bleeker, Ashley Bohn, Malonne Davies, Nicole Gannon, Christina Garton, Nancy Hite, Dan Kennett (proxy for George Durler), Steve Neill, Dennis Schmitt, and Gary Wyatt.

I. Minutes of October 11, 2006 were approved.

II. Announcements:  None

III. Old Business:

A. Council approved unanimously to delete “Earning a grade of ‘C’ or higher in any General Education Council approved ESU writing intensive course” as one of the alternative ways to meet the writing portion of the Competency exam.  Council unanimously approved to add the following alternative to the writing portion: “Earning a grade of ‘B’ or higher in EG104 (Honors Composition II) or EG301 (Advanced Composition).” These changes will take effect for students who matriculate in the Fall of 2007.

B. Council approved unanimously a subcommittee’s proposal of a working draft for a framework for the revised general education program.  Discussed best way to circulate general education course proposals among Council members.  G. Bleeker will check into sending them out electronically.
