Summary of 2004-2005

Study Abroad
The Council approved a proposal for using study abroad for fulfilling
the General Education’s multicultural Intensive Course requirement.
Waivers/Substitutions Advisory Committee
The Council approved a proposal to establish a Waivers/Substitutions Advisory
Committee “to deliberate upon and to provide counsel to the Director
of General Education regarding requests for substitutions or waivers of
general education requirements“ for students with documented learning
disabilities.
Review of Current General Education Program
The Council will host the first university-wide faculty open forum to
review the General Education Program on September 21, 2005.
Competency Examinations
The Council approved the Teachers College request to change competency
exam requirements for teacher education candidates, beginning in the Fall
of 2005.
Mid-term Evaluations of GTAs teaching General Education Courses
The Council approved to continue formal evaluations during the Fall semester
for those GTAs teaching general education courses and to ask for an update
evaluation of GTAs during the Spring Semester.
Ethnic/Gender Studies Program and Multicultural Intensive General
Education Course Requirement
Council reviewed the history of the Multicultural Intensive
general education requirement and also the process and criteria for approving
courses for the Ethnic/Gender studies program.
University Council on General Education Constitution
The Council’s revisions to the Constitution were approved by Dean
Sobieski and Vice-president Schwenn.
“Academic Programs/Departments” page of the ESU Website
The Council made corrections to the “Academic Programs/Departments”
page of the ESU Website.
Computer Survey
The Council agreed to discontinue the computer survey.
University Council on General Education Website
The Council approved changes to the format and content of the Council
on General Education Website. Also approved to archive minutes for a decade
and to place only current minutes under minutes.
