Minutes

 

PRESENT:     Tony Ambrosio, Phil Bennett (proxy for Paul Bland), Barbara Bleeker, Gary Bleeker, Ryann Brooks, Alexis Downs,  David Edds, Ed Emmer (proxy for Ellen Hansen), Kevin Johnson, Alli Jordan, Steve Neill, Dennis Schmitt, and Gary Wyatt.

           

I.          Minutes of September 12, 2007 were approved.

II.         Announcements:

            G. Bleeker distributed updated member list.

III.       Old Business:

              1. Motion made and seconded under “Multicultural Perspectives,” add the               following option to the “Modern Languages” section:  One advanced level (200               or above) Modern Language Course—3 or 4 credit hours.

                    unanimously approved.

                    2. Motion made and seconded under “Multicultural Perspectives,” modify the               “Major/Degree Requirements” to read as follows:  “Bachelor of Arts majors               need ten (10) credit hours of one Modern Language.  To meet this                            requirement, students will demonstrate proficiency at the 111: Language and               Culture II level.  Proficiency will be demonstrated by successful completion of               a Modern Languages and Literatures course numbered 111 or above, for a                      minimum of three and a maximum of 10 hours of language courses.                              International students for whom English is not their native language may meet               the language requirement upon successful completion of EG 102: Comp II.

                    Unanimously approved.

                  3. Motion made and seconded under “Personal and Social Well-Being,” add PE               100: Lifetime Fitness (1 hr) and PE 1XX: Active Living (1 hr) to “Core                             Requirement” (See matrices distributed at last meeting).

                  Motioned failed.

                  Motion made and seconded to change section VII. Personal and Social Well-                Being (3 Credit Hours) to (4 Credit Hours) and add PE:1XXX Active Living (1 hr)               under Health and Well Being.

                  2 Abstentions - Motion approved.

                  4. Motion made and seconded to move JO 200 from “Literature/Mass Media”                  under “Humanities” to “Speaking and Listening” under Core Skills (See                      attached matrix).  Motion withdrawn and next issue addressed.

                  5. Motion made and seconded to eliminate JO 200 from General Education                      Program.

                  Motion failed.

                  6. Eliminate BU 293 under “Personal and Social Well-Being” from General                         Education Program (See attached matrix).

                  No motion made.

                  7. Motion made and seconded to require all students to take 6 hours of history               and 3 hours of either Literature or Philosophy under “Humanities.” 

                  Motion failed.

                  8. Motion made and seconded to require all students to take 3 hours of history               and 3 hours of either literature or philosophy under “Humanities.”  Friendly               amendment approved to change Literature to  Literature/Mass Media

                  Vote tied – motion failed.

    Tony Ambrosio distributed and discussed two handouts:

    • GE Assessment Plan Approaches
    • Examples of Goals/Outcomes at the Core, Program and Classroom Level

    Discussion followed.

    The meeting adjourned at 4:45 p.m.
