Minutes
PRESENT: Tony Ambrosio, Paul Bland, Barbara Bleeker, Gary Bleeker, Ashley Bohn, Malonne Davies, Nicole Gannon, Christina Garton, Denny Kennett (proxy for George Durler), Steve Neill, Dennis Schmitt, and Gary Wyatt.
Guest: Neal Luo
I. Members of the Council introduced themselves.
II. Malonne Davis was elected as Chair and Christina Garton was elected as Vice Chair for the 2006-2007 academic year.
III. Minutes of April 26, 2006 were approved.
IV. Announcements:
Tony Ambrosio announced that the Assessment and Teaching Enhancement Center will be sponsoring an Assessment Forum on Thursday, September 28, at 1:00 p.m.
V. Informational Items:
A. Council accepted the “General Education Council Summary 2005-2006.”
B. G. Bleeker distributed copies of the “Council Member List” and “meeting Dates for Academic Year.” Corrections were made to the member list.
C. G. Bleeker underscored the Council attendance policy as detailed in the constitution and informed members that Council materials could be found on the College of LA&S homepage on the General Education Council link.
VI. Old Business:
A. Tony Ambrosio and Neal Luo reported on research on the correlation between CAAP Writing Scores and grades in courses. They distributed copies of: “Application to Certify Completion of Competency Examination Requirements,” “Frequencies of Exemption Options Exercised For CAAP Writing Competency Requirement–Spring 2005-Spring 2006,” “The relationship Between Grades of Selected General Education Courses and CAAP Scores: Is there a Difference Between ESU and Transfer Classes?” “Fitting Outcomes of General Education Assessment and other Academic Assessments to Structural Equation Modeling: What Academic Factors Affect CAAP Scores,” and “An Analysis of General Education Skills Developed as Measured by CAAP Test Performance from FY2001 to FY2006.” Discussion followed. G. Bleeker will check on the criteria for an Intensive Writing Course as established by the Council several years ago.
B. G. Bleeker distributed copies of a list of course proposals submitted to meet the revised General Education Program Goals and Outcomes.
C. Council discussed ways to align course proposals with goals and outcomes. Members were invited to bring to the next meeting a framework for aligning proposed courses with revised goals and outcomes.

VIII. Other:
G. Bleeker distributed excerpts of the “2005-2006 Graduating Senior Survey,” pertaining to general education. Members were asked to read the materials and be prepared to share their thoughts at the next meeting.
