PRESENT: Tony Ambrosio, Paul Bland, Barbara Bleeker, Gary Bleeker, Ryann Brooks, Alexis Downs, Ed Emmer (proxy for Ellen Hansen), Jacob Hadley, Kevin Johnson, Alli Jordan, Steve Neill, Dennis Schmitt, Richard Schrock (proxy for David Edds), Gary Wyatt.
I. Minutes of August 22, 2007 were approved.
Members introduced themselves and welcomed ASG student members.
II. Announcements:
G. Bleeker announced Vice President Schwenn approved to add AB110, AB111, AS110, & AS111 as options to the Cultural Diversity section of the General education Program on September 4, 2007.
III. Old Business:
a. Discussion and Voting on Suggested Changes to the “Working Draft” of the Goals and General Education Program.
1. Motion made and seconded to delete the last part of Goal 3: “…and the ability to make connections among the ideas and perspectives of multiple disciplines.”
1 vote approved – motion failed
2. Motion made and seconded under “Core Skills—Writing, “delete “Or an approved junior writing course in the discipline.
1 Vote against – Motion approved
3. Motion made and seconded under “Core Skills-- Quantitative and Mathematical Reasoning,” require all students to have a “C” or better.
Motion failed
4. Motion made and seconded under “Core Skills—Information Technology,” add UL 100 Information Literacy and Technology as one of the options
1 abstention, Motion approved
5. Motion made and seconded under “Social and Behavioral Sciences,” change Elementary Education and Secondary Education Major requirements from PO100 to any of the three political science courses.
2 Abstentions, Motion approved
6. Motion made and seconded under “Multicultural Perspectives,” change Elementary Education and Secondary Education Major requirements from AN210 to either AN210 or ET301.
1 opposed, 1 abstention, Motion approved
7. Under “Humanities,” Nursing proposes that NU302, History and Theory of Nursing, be used to meet History requirement.
1 Abstention, Motion failed
8. Nursing proposes that “Social and Behavioral Sciences” be changed from 6 credit hours to 6-9 credit hours (for Nursing majors)
2 opposed, 1 abstention, Motion approved
9. Nursing proposes that “Multicultural Perspectives” be changed from 6-10 credit hours to 3-10 credit hours.
Motion failed for lack of second
b. G. Bleeker distributed “Additional Suggested Changes (9/12/07) for discussion at September 26, 2007 meeting.
G. Bleeker distributed copy of Social Sciences “Working Draft” suggestions. Discussion ensued. G. Bleeker to send copy of matrices for JO200 and for BU293 to members of General Education Council for reconsideration at September 26, 2007 meeting.
c. Ambrosio distributed copies of “General Education Learning Outcomes and Program Assessment: Issues, Concerns and Recommendations” for discussion at September 26, 2007 General Education Council meeting.
