I. Minutes of March 8, 2006 Meeting: The minutes of the General Education Council meeting of March 8, 2006 were approved.
II. Announcements:
A. G. Bleeker distributed copy of General Education Matrix which was sent to Department chairs on 3/20/06 with a due date of 5/15/06. G. Bleeker has met with English, Physical Sciences and Biological Sciences to present and discuss the matrix. Some departments are holding summer workshops and will be working on the matrix then.
IV. New Business:
A. Information on Math Phobia program – Shanti Ramcharan, Director of Disability Services, gave a summary of the 6 week program. Discussion with questions, answers, and suggestions followed.
III. Old Business:
A. Shanti Ramcharan, Director of Disability Services, discussed general information regarding the handling of General Education Requirement Substitutions/Waivers by other universities. Question and answer session followed.
B. Webb distributed for discussion an Assessment Instrument for Evaluating Performance of GTAs. Consensus was that G. Bleeker will ask Associate Dean Bennett & Dean Sobieski to share this document with their respective leadership councils to seek feedback.
C. B. Bleeker distributed “Association of American Colleges and Universities (AAC&U) Conference on ‘General Education and Outcomes That Matter in a Changing World.’” Discussion followed.
D. General Education Council accepted report by Shervette Stevens on presentation to ASG of General Education Goals and Outcomes. Stevens reported that one student wondered how “effective” in “outcomes” under Goal I will be measured.

The meeting adjourned at 4:21 pm.
