PRESENT: Phil Bennett, Paul Bland (proxy for Steve Neill),

I. Minutes of February 8, 2006 Meeting: The minutes of
the General Education Council meeting of February 8, 2006 were approved.
II. Announcements:
A. G. Bleeker introduced Paul Bland who will be Steve Neill’s proxy
for the rest of the semester.
B. G. Bleeker announced that President Schallenkamp has requested that
the General Education Council be ready to send a revised General Education
Program to the Academic Affairs Committee of the Faculty Senate by April
11, 2006.
C. G. Bleeker shared information received from VPAA John Schwenn about
the “Scanning the Future” Webcast to be held on Tuesday, March
7, 2006 at 2:30 in VH330.
III. Old Business:
A. The General Education Council accepted the Report on the General Education
Surveys presented by Hadley and Stevens.
B. Council discussed and revised the 2/8/06 Draft of the General Education
Goals and Outcomes. Council approved of the 2/22/06 Draft.
IV. New Business:
A. Council agreed to have G. Bleeker distribute the revised Draft of the
General Education Goals and Outcomes to the faculty with a reminder that
the Council serves as an advisory body for the Dean of LA&S and that
all actions of the Council are subject to review by the Faculty Senate.
B. Council will begin process of creating a matrix, at the next meeting,
for use by departments in identifying and/or designing courses for the
general education curriculum.

The meeting adjourned at 4:40 pm.

Program are announced by the Dean of the College.
