Minutes

PRESENT: Tony Ambrosio, Phil Bennett, Barbara Bleeker, Gary Bleeker, Malonne Davies, George Durler, Elissa Hadley, Ellen Hansen, Nancy Hite, Dennis Schmitt, Shervette Stevens, Amy Sage Webb

Guests: Mike Butler, Joe Yanik, Gary Wyatt

I. Minutes of November 9, 2005 Meeting: The minutes of the General Education Council meeting of November 9, 2005 were approved.

II. Announcements:

A. New General Education Council member, Elissa Hadley, was introduced.
B. The council discussed reactions to two articles–“Bridging the Chasm: First Year Students and the Library” (Chronicle of Higher Education) and “What Every Student Should Know” (Education Life).
C. G. Bleeker gave background information and distributed midterm reports on evaluation of GTA’s Teaching of General Education courses.
D. G. Bleeker reported on his meeting with the Strategic Planning Committee.

III. Old Business:
A. M. Bricker was absent and the report on the Results of the Student Survey on General Education was tabled until the next meeting.
B. G. Bleeker distributed a Working Copy of Goal 6.3. Discussion ensued and revisions were made to the Draft of General Education Goals and Outcomes.


IV. New Business
A. Council members discussed the format for the upcoming Gen Ed forum to be held on February 6, 2006 @ 3:00 p.m. in the Kanza Room. Suggestions made include making forum a large group session and sending background information with the revised draft copy of the General Education Goals and Outcomes to all faculty before the forum for comments and suggestions.

V. Other - None

The meeting adjourned at 4:40 pm.
