Meet the Emporia State University Foundation Team
Vice President for Stewardship and Administration
Jennifer Denton has led Emporia State University Foundation’s Stewardship and Administration team since August 2012. Under Denton’s leadership the team has successfully completed a total conversion of alumni, gift, and financial data software and associated business processes (from Banner to Blackbaud); has reinstated a personalized annual Stewardship Report mailing to nearly 800 endowment donors; and has executed more than 15 donor recognition events celebrating $5.4M+ in private giving. Previously, Jennifer served as Chief Operations Officer at Colorado State University–Pueblo Foundation.
A native Coloradoan, Denton redeemed her National Merit Scholarship at Rice University in pursuit of a chemical engineering degree. Following graduation she enabled client businesses to leverage technology as a Staff Consultant at Computer Sciences Corporation, Houston, Texas, and later served as a Marketing Specialist for a top-producing Colorado real estate team. Denton credits her unique educational and career journey with honing the analytical, client service, and communication skills necessary to help meet Emporia State’s $45M campaign goal.
In her free time you can find Jennifer, her husband Brian, and their two daughters enjoying the many musical, athletic, and family events Emporia has to offer.
Vice President for Development
Shane Shivley is putting 12 years of Hornet service to use as he leads the development team raising the bar in the largest comprehensive campaign Emporia State has ever embarked upon, a $45M effort known as Now & Forever: The Campaign for Emporia State University. Leading by example, Shivley has raised $5M during the campaign. Previously at Emporia State, Shivley served as the Senior Director of Development/Senior Associate Athletic Director. In this role, he directed and managed all income generating activities for the athletic department and supervised the marketing, ticketing, and facilities offices.
Under his leadership, the Hornets have spearheaded facility upgrading campaigns across the board. The Trusler Sports Complex has seen development of the Hanna Baseball/Softball Clubhouse, Glennen Field Baseball Turf, and a state of the art baseball/softball hitting facility. At Welch Stadium, SuperTurf has been installed in Jones Field and Witten Track has been resurfaced. Within the HPER Building, Emporia State has remodeled the Basketball Practice Facility, renovated and expanded the Emporia State Athletics Weight Room and Larry Kramer Hall of Excellence and renovated or added locker rooms for men’s basketball, track and field and tennis. The newest athletic facility is the state of the art John Baxter Sports Medicine Center. These improvements have helped the university be among the best in the nation at the Division II level.
A native of Parsons, Kansas, Shivley earned a bachelor’s degree in business from Emporia State in 2000 and a master’s in Sport Administration from Wichita State University in 2002. He and his wife, Mary (Decker), are the proud parents of a daughter, Alexa and a son, Maddox.
