This page will provide information on various scholarships and grants from Emporia State University and other organizations for new and continuing students . Please note the various application deadlines.
All undergraduate Emporia State University scholarships recipients must meet the following requirements:
New Freshmen/Transfer Students Fall 2010 - Spring 2011
- Must complete the Hornet Scholarship application
- Must be enrolled fulltime during consecutive fall and spring semesters
- Must successfully complete a minimum of 10 credit hours AND attain a minimum 2.5 term GPA for the fall semester in order to receive the spring disbursement
Students must reapply for the Hornet Scholarship in order to be considered for the following academic year. Qualifications for renewal of this scholarship can be found here.
Students who meet the minimum requirements at the conclusion of the fall semester will be contacted by email with instructions on how to reapply for the following academic year.

Activity Scholarships and Talent Awards(may require audition or portfolio submission)
Please check with the appropriate department regarding audition dates. Athletic ScholarshipsESU is a member of Division II of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and of the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA). All scholarship policies are governed by the regulations and policies of the NCAA and of the MIAA. Capitol Federal Savings ScholarshipFull-time undergraduate and graduate students who graduated from Kansas high schools, are pursuing a degree from the School of Business and have a minimum 3.25 cumulative GPA. First preference will be given to students from Emporia, Kansas City, Lawrence, Manhattan, Topeka and Wichita. Contact the School of Business (620) 341-5225 for more information.
Classified Personnel Dependent/Child ScholarshipAt least half-time undergraduate and/or graduate students who are children of Emporia State University classified personnel, regardless of their dependency status. Applications are mailed to all ESU classified employees in January or February of each year, with an application deadline of March 1. The number and amount of award(s) is made subject to the annual allocation and pool of applicants. Departmental ScholarshipsScholarship eligibility requirements are determined by the individual departments. Questions regarding eligibility should be directed to the appropriate department.

Educational Opportunity Fund GrantApplications for the Educational Opportunity Fund Grant program are available in late November in Financial Aid, 103 Plumb Hall or the Associated Student Government office, 105 Memorial Union. For incoming freshmen and continuing undergraduate students who have graduated from Johnson County, Kansas, high schools and are pursuing teaching degrees. Minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA, application, essay, letters of recommendation, transcript, and application for admission to ESU. ESU General ScholarshipsESU General Scholarships are supported by ESU Alumni, ESU faculty and staff and friends of ESU. Students who are not eligible for the Hornet Scholarship may apply for these scholarships.

Graduate StudentsQualifying graduate students are eligible for Academic Achievement Assistantships (AAA Awards), Graduate Teaching and Research Assistantships, Kansas Ethnic Minority Graduate Fellowship, and Endowed Funds For Graduate Student Support. Jones Foundation GrantResidents of Coffey, Lyon, or Osage counties in Kansas for 1 year or more may apply for this educational grant. This does not include those moving to these counties for post-secondary educational purposes. Visit the Jones Foundation website or contact their office at 620-342-1714 for more information. Non-Institutional ScholarshipsThere may be a number of privately-funded scholarship opportunities available to you from local sources. Contact your counselor for information on possible scholarship sources. Students and parents should also check with their employers to see whether some type of assistance programs may exist. The Office of Student Financial Aid also occasionally receives information from specific non-institutional scholarship sources. Should you receive a non-institutional (non-ESU) scholarship, we ask that you notify us of the amount and source of the award. By law, we must include the award as part of your financial aid package. Scholarship searches are also available in helping you find non-institutional scholarship funds from across the nation. Phi Theta Kappa Membership ScholarshipNew transfers starting at ESU in the fall of 2009, who have been active members of Phi Theta Kappa, are eligible for a one time $1000 award. All-Kansas Academic Team members are eligible for an additional one-time award of $500 for an overall PTK scholarship of $1,500. Finaid.org is an excellent resource for information on the various types of searches available to you, things to watch out for, and low-cost or free alternatives to many commercial searches on the market. Valedictorian/Salutatorian ScholarshipNew freshmen starting at ESU in the fall of 2009, who are named the Class Valedictorian, or are ranked 1 in their class, are eligible for a one time $500 award. Students who are named Class Salutatorian, or are ranked 2 in their class, are eligible for a one time $250 award.
