Enrollment (Graduates)

For purposes of receiving financial aid, listed below are the enrollment statuses based on enrolled credit hours for graduate students.  Graduate-level students required to take undergraduate level courses must complete one of the following:

  • Graduate students who are fully admitted to a graduate program and must take undergraduate level courses as part of the graduate program, can complete the Mixed Enrollment Form in order to request that the undergraduate level courses are included when determining financial aid eligibility. Graduate students enrolled in undergraduate courses or a combination of undergraduate and graduate courses will be funded according to federal loan limits for graduate students as well as financial aid enrollment requirements for graduate students.
  • Graduate students who must take undergraduate pre-requisite courses in order to become fully admitted to their graduate program should complete the Graduate Pre-requisite Verification Form. Graduate students in this situation will only be funded for those undergraduate pre-requisite courses. Any graduate level courses taken simultaneously with the undergraduate pre-requisite courses will not be funded.  Also, students funded for pre-requisite courses will be funded according to federal loan limits for undergraduate students as well as financial aid enrollment requirements for undergraduate students.

Please note that these statuses are for financial aid purposes only and may not reflect departmental standards.

Summer/Fall/Spring

Full-Time 6 or more graduate-level credit hours
Half-Time 4 - 5 graduate-level credit hours
Less-Than Half-Time 1 - 3 graduate-level credit hours

For the purpose of calculating a student's estimated cost of attendance, three-quarter time and full-time have been combined into one status: greater than half-time.  So, if a graduate student enrolls in 5 or more credit hours, their cost of attendance will remain the same; however, there are some aid programs that use the above statuses to determine disbursement of aid (for instance, the Federal TEACH Grant).

Note:  You must be enrolled at least half-time to be Direct Loan eligible.
