     I. Purpose:       To modify policy on Faculty Senate absenteeism



     II.  Previous Senate Action:  The bylaws of the Emporia State

          University Faculty Senate were adopted by the Faculty Senate on

          February 19, 1985 as FSB 84014 and approved by the President of

          the University on March 3, 1985.  The bylaws were modified by

          FSB 88011 and FSR 93014.



     III. Definition of Terms: None

                              FSB 96005

  Section 4.



1  The office of a senator shall be declared by the Secretary of the Senate to be



2  vacant (a) whenever the senator or the senator's substitute is not present at four



3  regularly scheduled meetings of the senate, to include Senate and Senate 



4  Committee meetings, during one academic year  (b) upon the resignation from the



5  University faculty be the faculty member serving as a senator, and (c) upon receipt



6  by the Secretary of the Senate of the senator's letter of resignation from the  



7  Senate.  Within ten class days following the declaration that the office of a senator



8  is vacant the Secretary shall notify the head of the division or unit represented by



9  the senator that the office is vacant, at which time the unit must elect a 



10 replacement for the remainder of the senator's term.
