FACULTY SENATE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE MEETING
September 26, 1996

Members present: Ballester, Butler, Calhoun, Greenlief, McCoy, Payne, Terrell, Yanik
Absent: Irwin

I. Call to order:

President Ron McCoy called the meeting to order at 12:05 p.m.

II. Announcements and Remarks:

A. Faculty President McCoy
1. President McCoy thanked Judy Calhoun for attending the Sept. Board of Regents meeting in his place.
2. The Senate Executive Committee needs to nominate the faculty representative on the search committee for the new ESU Foundation Director. Members were asked to forward suggestions to President McCoy.
3. Letters have been sent to the ESU Foundation as well as the ESU Alumni Association to invite them to send a representative to attend ESU Faculty Senate meetings.

B. Vice President Payne
1. At the September Board of Regents meeting the representatives of Student governments presented a list of initiatives. These initiatives included suggestions for making the results of student evaluations of faculty members public.
2. COCOA is discussing tenure track alternatives. One suggestion is to remove the title of instructors from policies that apply to assistant, associative and full professors and create separate documents for policies that apply to instructors.

III. Committee Reports:

A. Academic Affairs (Ballester)
This committee continues to discuss the issues of prior approval and concurrent enrollment. The committee is having difficulty determining a policy for applying the requirement of good academic standing for athletic participation to general extracurricular activities.

B. Committee on Campus Governance (Terrell)
The Committee has compiled a schedule for administrators' reviews as well as a schedule of committees to review under the sunset bill.

C. Faculty Affairs (Butler)
Sen. Butler presented the latest document on a policy statement on the process of dismissal for chronic low performance. This version has incorporated several suggestions that were brought forth at the last Senate meeting as well as a more specific time frame for quantifying the term, "chronic". This last change was motivated by the Board of Regents rejection of the KU document because of the omission of a time frame. The Executive Committee discussed ways of conveying the frustration of senators over the lack of time to obtain proper faculty input on this bill. President McCoy will discuss this matter with the other faculty presidents.

D. Faculty Handbook (Greenlief)
This committee continues to make progress on updating the faculty handbook.

IV. Adjournment:

President McCoy adjourned the meeting at 1:45 p.m.
