III. Committee Reports:
A. Academic Affairs (Ballester)
The Committee decided not to return the prior approval bill to the Senate floor. Much discussion followed on this issue. Senator Greenlief suggested that the Senate Executive Committee put forward the bill citing the precedence last year on the legislation concerning a policy on AIDS which originated with the Senate Executive Committee. Senator Greenlief agreed to rewrite the prior approval bill and present for discussion at the next Exec meeting. Academic Affairs will be sponsoring a bill which assigns the responsibility for competency exams to the General Education Council.
B. Committee on Campus Governance (Terrell)
This committee did not meet since the last Senate Executive meeting.
C. Faculty Affairs (Butler)
This committee did not meet since the last Senate Executive meeting. On the issue of maternity leave which was brought up at the last meeting, Sen. Butler made some inquiries and learned that maternity leave policies are determined at the state level and local universities are unable to establish individual procedures.
D. Faculty Handbook (Greenlief)
This committee continues to make progress on updating the faculty handbook.
