Assistant Vice President for International Education
Emporia State University seeks a dynamic, innovative educational leader for the
position of Assistant Vice President for International Education. With an
international student enrollment of over 500 students and institutional
enrollment in excess of 6,300, Emporia State is known as an excellent regional
university where teaching and learning are paramount. Faculty and staff
members are well known for working closely with students to ensure success. The
Assistant Vice President for International Education reports directly to the
Associate Provost and Vice President for Strategic Partnerships.
Responsibilities of the new Assistant Vice President for International
Education include:
•Developing a vision for Emporia State’s International Education programs
•Developing a plan for continued expansion of the location and delivery of
ESU’s Intensive English Program;
•Promoting and sustaining an environment that supports and encourages the
institutions internationalization efforts,
•Growing study abroad programs;
•Providing leadership for the development of new international partnerships as
well as the continued strengthening of existing partnerships;
•Hiring and evaluation of qualified instructors for the Intensive English
Program;
•Hiring and evaluation of all staff in the management of the Office of
International Education;
•Working with departments across campus to manage the Enrollment Management
functions of International students;
•Developing and maintaining relationships with faculty members to enhance and
expand international program opportunities;
•Effectively managing the fiscal aspects of the Office of International
Education to assist in achieving the strategic goals as they relate to the
internationalization of the institution.
Education and Experience Required:
An earned master’s degree with progressively responsible experience working
with international education programs in higher education is required.
Preference will be given to applicants with eight or more years of experience.
An earned doctorate with progressively responsible experience working with
international education programs in higher education is preferred. Proven
record of financial, administrative, and organizational competence skills at
the director or senior management level as well as excellent written and verbal
communication skills is required. Successful candidate should possess the
ability to interact effectively with students, parents, faculty, alumni, as
well as overseas staffs and institutions. The successful candidate will serve
as the Primary Designated School Official in all immigration matters related to
DHS Student Exchange Visitors and Exchange Visitors Information System (SEVIS)
and therefore per federal regulations, the successful candidate must be a U.S.
citizen or lawful permanent resident and must be eligible for certification by
DHS as a PDSO/DSO and as an ARO/RO as required by federal regulations. In
addition, successful candidate must meet and maintain all federal and state
requirements including successful completion of background checks as a
condition of employment. Further, candidates must be able and willing to travel
domestically and internationally, sometimes extensively (experience living
abroad would be a significant plus). Priority will be given to candidates
meeting all required qualifications plus participating in international
education professional organizations, proficiency in at least one foreign
language, college-level teaching experience, and a demonstrated experience and
success in international program development.
