Programs of Study - Modern Languages & Literatures
The Department of English, Modern Languages, and Journalism offers two full Bachelor's level programs, the Bachelor of Arts and the Bachelor of Science in Education for Spanish, as well as minors in select languages.
Students may complete a minor in French, German, and Spanish. In addition to these minors, courses which focus on studies of other languages, such as Arabic, are available.
Modern Languages in the Campus Community and Abroad
Supporting students outside of class is important to ESU's Department of English, Modern Languages, and Journalism. The Writing Center is available to assist students with all parts of writing papers and our affiliated Recognized Student Organizations offer students the chance to engage with their peers in extracurricular activities and be recognized for their contributions as literary citizens:
- The Best of ESU, an annual anthology of exemplary student work, celebrates excellence in writing campus-wide.
- Students can get involved in clubs and organizations which celebrate language and diversity.
- Language partners are always beneficial to native and non-native speakers alike. Students may sign up to practice their practical Modern Language skills with a fluent partner, and help that partner with their English in turn.
- Faculty lead yearly trips abroad with Modern Languages students to learn about and experience different cultures in an immersive experience.
