What was Project Success?
Project
Success (2001-2005) was a collaborative effort between Emporia
State University, the Educational Services and Staff Development
Association of Central Kansas (ESSDACK), and the U.S. Department
of Education. Funded by the Federal Training for All Teachers
grant, Project Success allowed up to 60 teachers (20 each year
for three years) from eight Kansas school districts to complete
their ESL certification through Emporia State University.
Project
Success' goal was to help teachers develop appropriate and effective
strategies, resources and curricula to assist English Language
Learners (ELLs) in meeting the state standards. Teachers
participating in this grant:
- Received tuition fees for 15
credit hours of classes from ESU that result in ESL Certification
from the State of Kansas.
- Were awarded $1,000 upon completion of the courses, PRAXIS II and ESL state endorsement.
- Gained assistance from resource
personnel for addressing individual student learning needs.
- Had access to new resources
and materials; develop new competencies to improve learning
for students with limited English proficiency.
- Networked with other teachers
of students with ELLs.
- Enhanced cross-cultural communication
skills that lead to parental involvement focused on increased
student learning.
- Improved technology use for the
teaching-learning process.
