This program of study prepares students to work in government agencies, business and industry entry-level positions, and travel agencies. It is developed to provide students with the language skills--understanding, speaking, reading, and writing--necessary to function effectively in the environment native to the language. General Information: General Education requirements for the degree Bachelor of Arts are outlined in the Class Schedule and in the Undergraduate Catalog. Additional upper division requirements are stated in the catalog. Requirements: 39 hours (beyond first year courses which are a part of the general education component of the degree requirements). An oral interview is required upon entering the program and before graduation in order to evaluate progress and proficiency. Graduates must attain an ACTFL Oral Proficiency rating of "Intermediate High." Moreover, a major in good standing must maintain a 3.0 grade point average in the modern language. Recommendation: It is strongly recommended that all majors participate in an acceptable study program abroad in which they will be exposed to the target language and culture. Second Program of Study: The student is required to complete a second program of study from 15 to 30 hours in another discipline of the student’s choice.
