Expanding Your Horizons In Science and Math

Expanding Your Horizons is a discovery program for primarily for grades 6-8 to connect learning to careers. At Emporia State University the conference usually is attended by over 200 girls and some 50 or so accompanying adults. Over 30 presenters focus on science and math in both career discussions and hands-on work stations. For more information contact Science and Math Education Center or Betsy Yanik. For more information on other programs visit a California EYH site or Seattle EYH site.

EYH 2005, March 11, at Emporia State University is history!! Thanks to all who participated, including organizers, teachers, and students. A bit of one workshop can be seen online... Dr. Schulmeister worked with Margaret Townsend from the Kansas Geological Survey to explain groundwater and drinking water contamination to participants. To see pictures of students drinking contaminated aquifers, a.k.a. milkshake contamination, visit http://hydrogeology.emporia.edu/EYH.htm!

Some of the past presentations included: Susie Aber and Margaret Landis did "Rock Sleuths," Susan Stover presented "Pollution Detectives", and Mary Daily (ESU Earth Science graduate) spoke on careers in environmental geology. Hope to see you in March 2001!
