Courses

The Earth Science department offers selected courses via World Wide Web for distance education and
Lifelong Learning. In order to take these courses, students must be enrolled officially, and they must be in contact with the teacher for necessary course materials and instructions. It's not possible to complete the courses from the web pages only. The following courses are now online; next scheduled offering is indicated for each. For more information about distance learning and online courses in earth science, contact J.S. Aber.

Career Opportunities in Earth Science

Excellent career opportunties exist at both the B.S. and M.S. levels for professional employment in the earth sciences. In recent years students have found appropriate positions in teaching, governmental agencies, and private companies. Potential annual salaries range from around $20,000 for B.S. entry-level positions to more than $50,000 for M.S. students with work experience. Interdisciplinary science backgrounds combined with computer expertise, strong communication skills, and/or international experience are highly sought after in the commercial marketplace. Several earth-science hot job tracks have been highlighted by U.S. News and World Report in recent years.
