Contour Lines, Township Lines and Range Lines

Contour lines give flat maps an added dimension, that when understood can give the reader of the map a greater meaning to a land they might consider visiting in their lifetime. These lines show the elevation of the land surface, by showing other land surfaces of equal elevation with imaginary lines.

Townships and range lines can show specific locations on a map. Township lines run east to west, while range lines run north and south. The map will be broken up into sections, that in turn will be broken into quarters. These quarters are then made into smaller quarters to be more precise.
