This site was composed for two given purposes. ES111CC, instructed by Mrs.
Susan Ward Aber, is the lab session for the Earth Science class, ES110C,
at Emporia State University. Mrs.
Aber offers a chance to her students for substituting a web site for one
of the five tests from the ES111CC lab. ES111CC is the class that allows
the students to experience knowledge beyond the classroom. Students, for
instance, have an opportunity to see, touch, and identify the different
types of rocks and minerals. The second purpose of this composing web site
is to allow the students to expand their knowledge from the textbook to
some extensive research. That is, in order to accomplish requirements
for this composing web site, students must search for additional information
in regard of the topic that they have chosen. This research includes, but
not limit to, existing information in the internet, journals, or articles.
Additionally, students are given an opportunity to learn the web site composing
skill. Indeed, students have received significant learning experiences
from this opportunity.
This
web site is about topographic maps. Topographic map is, in general, a map
that shows detail of landscape. Topographic maps are unique and have distinct
characteristics. They reveal elevation of the landscape in
addition to the detail on the land surface, among many other important aspects. Contour lines, lines that connect points of land at
the same elevation, allow the map reader to understand a better detail of geographical aspects of a certain place.
