Visable Affects of Earthquakes

Many earthquake damage images are available for viewing at this external commercial site, Photos To Go. One image I thought to be interesting was of the San Andreas Fault (toward the bottom of the external linked page). This fault is in California and runs the entire length of the state. It was once thought to be the only fault that ran through Los Angeles. See visible evidence of this fault is shown on this page and here (from Photos To Go ). Another interesting Photos To Go image is of the Antelope Valley Freeway in California, following the 1989 earthquake (also view the image here).

Other sites recording earthquake damage include the Ladder54 Firefighters website and an ABC news story. See the box below.

The Ladder54 firefighter site has images of a 1989 California earthquake. These images document heavy rescue work on interstate roads by firefighters. The images above show recovery by firefighters going to the car from above and Interstate 880 road damage, San Francisco Bay Area, California.

An ABC news story archive from January 15, 2001 included this image. A huge landslide was triggered in the town of Santa Tecla, El Salvador following the 7.6 magnitude earthquake. The earthquake claimed some 600 people and damaged some 34,000 homes. This landslide buried hundreds of homes. The earthquake epicenter was some off the Salvadoran coast.
