Habit: Usually found as small compact prisms, granular, or drusy. Environment of Origin: Forms as an essential component of basalt, gabbro, and peridotite.

Lore and Magik

Peridot, also known as chrysolite, olivine, or peridoto, was usually set in gold and worn on the left side. It was used to dispel night terrors, calm anger and the nervous system, cures depression, and to ward off fevers. Evil spirits were repelled if peridot was strung on the hair of an ass and worn on the one's left arm. Peridot was credited with the power to make the wearer gracious and loving. It also was used to foretell the future.
