This is a web page associated with a gemstones and gemology course taught at Emporia State University. This page represents an ongoing student project designed to index some article titles from past print format Jewelers Circular Keystone (JCK) journals which are available for check-out to students in this class. Student contributors to this page include Shannon Gering (2004), Jennifer Willard (2004), Erin Allen (2006), Dustin Edwards (2006), Jennifer Banta (2006), and Kallie Moore (2006).

JCK is a premier jewelry and gemstone journal, which has an online presence at http://www.jckgroup.com. Hedda T Schupak, Editor-in-chief of JCK International Publishing Group granted permissionon, March 16, 2004, for this project to be online.

Another excellent gem journal is Gems and Gemology, with an online component at http://www.gia.edu/gemsandgemology/70/section_main_page.cfm. This journal has been indexed by Gems and Gemology at http://www.gia.edu/gemsandgemology/357/ig__gi_indexes.cfm and by another online gemstone site at http://socrates.berkeley.edu/~eps2/wisc/refgg.html.

If You Can't Stand the Heat, Get Out of the Gem Business Part 4 Gary Roskin, G.G., FGA, JCK Senior Editor September 109-114 Feature - This article is about the use of heat treatments and the value of a gem that has been treated. Roskin (2004) focused on diamonds and if a D, E, of F colored diamond that was heat-treated should be the same price as a naturally colorless diamond. Roskin revealed a problem with the high pressure and high temperature-treated (HPHT-treated) diamonds, and the problematic nature of identifying these treatments. The author believed that a majority of HPHT-treated diamonds would be identified by their color; however, some heat treaded diamonds are being passed as natural. Roskin explained the different types and how they might be identified.
