This course is an introduction to rocks and minerals and the associated fields of study, petrology and mineralogy. This course focuses on recognition, terminology, and classification of minerals, rocks, and sediments. The emphasis is on identification and description using only simple equipment. This three-credit hour course is intended primarily for students seeking earth science majors (B.S. or B.A.)and earth/space science teaching certification (B.S.E.); however, it could be of value to students seeking civil engineering or integrated studies majors. In fact, this course is for any student who wants to learn the basics of rocks and minerals!

The 2009 fall semester, campus-based course will meet on Tuesday and Thursday from 11:00 a.m. until 12:20 p.m. The first meeting will be August 20 in Science Hall 128.
