Tallinn Tallinn is the capital of Estonia. There are about 450,000 people living there. These pictures were taken in the old town area, as the rest of the city is industrial and not very photogenic. The pictures were taken on a weekend when we picked up my grandparents from the airport. From there it's about a two hour drive to Tartu.
Here is one of the grandparents in question, along with Mom and Jay. They're watching a real TV, one that actually has channels to chose from (and Eurosport!). Our Russian made TV in the apartment has a poor picture and the reception of our four channels is horrible. Give thanks for DVDs.
A street in Tallinn's old town. Throughout this crowd is a large number of gypsies selling "new" watches and cell phones. They're annoying. Get a real job!
Another, wider shot of the square. Once again, the arrow points to family. Too bad they weren't facing the right direction...
The gates from the opposite side. Note the ever-present golden arches on the right side of the picture. Too bad...
This is a picture of the main square. The small black arrow points to Jay and Mom.
This is the Old Hansa restaurant. It was a highly recommended restaurant. They had authentic costumes and bear on the menu for only twenty bucks (US$)!
These are the gates to the city of Tallinn-- just not anymore. These date back to Tallinn's medieval days. In fact, these walls are right in the middle of the city, not at the edges. Oh well, I guess they can defend the shopping district.
