A View of Estonian Life |
|
![]() | The street we live on is named after Anton Hansen Tammsaare. He was an early 20th century novelist, who wrote a 5 volume saga, Tõde ja õigus, Truth and Justice, 1926-1933. Our apartment building as seen from the east. |
![]() | Our apartment building as seen from the west. |
| Welcome to our apartment! This is a view as you walk in the door after climbing 66 steps to the fourth floor. No, there is no elevator. |
| Jay, Jim, and Susie sitting down to the evening meal prepared by... |
| Jim in the kitchen. |
| The living room window faces north. Our view spans apartment buildings, a school, and a university dormitory. |
| The bedroom and clothes drying room. The door opens out to a small balcony. |
| The boys bedroom and study area! We live on the end of a building and are lucky to have east, north, and west facing windows providing plenty of light. |
| It is in a room of its own! The "bathroom" is in a separate room, with sink and tub/shower. Jeremy has many more images of our apartment if you have not been there already! |

The Tartu Botanical Garden was founded in 1803 and has some 6,400 plant species. (Jeremy has more garden images, again, if you have not already been there!) The Tallinnn Botanical Garden is online with some nice images available for viewing. Other museums we find interesting and are online include: the National Museum is a celebration of Estonian life; the working observatory, located outside of town, is home to the largest telescope in Northern Europe; the university history museum; the 19th century citizen museum; Oskar Luts home, Estonian writer; Karl Ristikivi, another Estonian writer, whose birthday (if he was alive!) is coming up on October 16; the Liivi Museum, Estonian poet; the agriculture museum; the university classical art museum, which we would have enjoyed but it is closed for remodeling; and of course the geology museum, last but not least. Tallinn is the capital city of Estonia also has museums online, such as Estonian Maritime Museum includes Estonian maritime information and artifacts.
