Program Summary
The purpose of the Emporia State University Restricted License Program is to serve as an alternative for career-changers who select teaching, school counselor, or library media specialist as a career after completing a degree in a field other than education. It is intended to address teacher shortages and make licensure more accessible. An individual will be able to complete teacher licensure requirements while employed as a teacher.
This performance-based program is built upon the following premises that also provide the infrastructure of ESU's nationally accredited teacher education program:
- Teacher education programs should be comprised of collaborative efforts with the university in cooperation among public schools, school boards, parents, and professional organizations.
- Education programs should evolve from the integration of a discipline-specific and a professional education curriculum.
- Education programs should provide direct experiences with learners through field-based, clinical practice and an extended internship placement.
- Teacher education programs should prepare educators to exhibit the knowledge, skills, and disposition of the professional educator.
