Your ESU Student Email Account
Emporia State University students enrolled in Distance Education distance
courses are REQUIRED to maintain an email account through Emporia State
University. Accounts with 10MB storage capacity are automatically created
a day or two after a student enrolls. Once this 10MB of storage space
is exceeded, students will not be able to send email; however, email
will continue to be received. Mail is automatically deleted from your
Inbox after 180 days.

How to Access Your Account
There are two main ways to access your Stumail Account:
-
Log Into Buzz In at http://buzzin.emporia.edu and select GWWeb from the Quick Links Channel for instant access. You may also use the e-mail icon at the top; however, GWWeb is a much easier format to use.
--OR-- -
Go directly to your email account at http://stumail.emporia.edu and click Go.
Your username will be the first letter of your first name and the first 7 letters of your last name.* New default passwords will be the last six digits of your Student ID (Banner E-Number). You will be required to change this password once you login.
*If two or more individuals have the same first initial and last name, a number will be added to end of the account – for instance, George Washington’s account may be gwashing, gwashin1, or gwashin2, etc depending upon how many students' names start with G. Washin. |
Don't know your Student ID or E-Number?

Attended/Applied to ESU before March of 2007?
Your account may have been created under our old system.
NOTE: You will use the same username & password to access Stumail, Buzz In, the iDrive, and lab/library computer logins. You will be required to change this password periodically.
How to Change Your Password
We suggest that you change your password once you have accessed your email account. While logged into Buzz In, select Password Management underneath Quick Links on the main page. You can also change it while within your email account. Just click on the Options icon at the top of the screen and select Password.
Email Forwarding
Please note that although forwarding email is an option, it is not recommended that you forward your email to an outside email account such as: Yahoo, Hotmail, Gmail, etc. Choosing to forward your email to an account outside of your ESU GroupWise account, may keep you from receiving important messages from your instructor and the university.
Forwarding your ESU GroupWise account to a email account outside of the university email system is at your own risk.
Instructions for forwarding your ESU GroupWise email account to another email account:
- After logging in to GroupWise Web Mail (GWWeb) at http://gwweb.emporia.edu or through your BUZZ-IN account, you should see in the top right hand corner a button labeled Options. Click on the Options button.
- Select the Rules tab at the top of the page. From the drop down menu select forward, then click Create. Choose a name for your rule and enter in the Rule Name text box. Once you have named the rule, leave the If text box blank , allowing all messages to be forwarded to you.
- In the To text box, enter the email you want to forward your ESU GroupWise email account to. (Entering an Email in the To text box is required).
- You may also enter a subject you will recognize in the Subject text box, i.e. my Forwarded ESU Email, and a message in the Message text box. (Entering information in both these boxes is optional)
Using Email Clients
POP3/IMAP4 service is available*, allowing students to use third-party mail applications such as Eudora, Netscape Mail, Outlook, Outlook Express, and Entourage (Mac). To use these clients, use the following information:
-
Incoming mail server: stumail.emporia.edu
-
Outgoing mail servers: stumail.emporia.edu
You must check the box that indicates authentication is required for
SMTP, or sending mail.
*Please note: Technology and Computing Services support is limited to
the web interface located at http://stumail.emporia.edu and http://buzzin.emporia.edu.
