Deadlines for enrollment/registration

The Collegiate Assessment of Academic Proficiency (CAAP) test is offered every semester at the main Emporia State University Campus and the ESU - Kansas City (Overland Park, KS) location. Your Advisor will enroll you for CAAP testing during your advising sessions.

There are three sections of the CAAP testing; math, reading and writing.  You will be notified of which section(s) you must take during our registration sessions.  CAAP testing fees are $25.00 per section.  This amount will be billed to the students account upon enrollment for the CAAP test and will reflect on the student's transcript as a course.  It will indicate the time and building the test will be administered. For students who are not yet enrolled in classes, payment can be made online. For non-enrolled students, please contact your advisor or our office for more information on payment.   No refunds will be given for the CAAP testing unless the Assessment Office is notified before the day of testing at 620-341-5103. Results for the CAAP test take approximately 6 weeks.  The scores will be mailed to your address listed on file with ESU.  Please let us know if you have any questions regarding your testing results.

Do I have to take the CAAP test?

All undergraduates are required to take the CAAP. Non-teaching degree students may qualify for exemptions. Consult your advisor for possible exemption.  It is best to take the CAAP in the semester after you complete Composition 102 (CAAP Writing) and College Algebra MA110 (CAAP Mathematics). Students are strongly encouraged to complete all CAAP tests no later than their Junior year.

How do I sign up for the CAAP test?
You sign up for the CAAP test through your advisor.  Normally, you will enroll in CAAP tests at the same time you enroll in your classes for the upcoming semester.  In an instance where you or your advisor has questions in regard to enrolling in CAAP tests, feel free to call our office.

What happens if I fail the CAAP test?

Teaching degree students are required to meet the CAAP cutoff scores. Non-teaching degree students who have failed a section of the test have an option to fulfil the requirement in the math, reading, and writing labs. The lab option may require several weeks of time investment, so students are encouraged to seek these services and complete the lab option early in the semester. Click here for lab information.
