Accommodation Letters

When students with disabilities register with the office, if appropriate, an Accommodation Letter will be issued. The Accommodation Letter serves as the primary source of communication between students with disabilities and those who are providing accommodations and services at Emporia State University. The Accommodation Letter lists accommodations and services that have been deemed reasonable and appropriate to level the playing field. Accommodations do not reduce academic standards. After review and verification has occurred, the Accommodation Letter is issued and given to the student. Although it is the student’s choice whether to request accommodations in a class or for an event, students are encouraged to share their original Accommodation Letter with those who they are seeking accommodations from as early in the semester as possible. Accommodations cannot be provided until the Accommodation Letter is shared with the appropriate person. We also recommend sharing the Letter outside the classroom during the professor's office hours or by appointment. Professors can make a copy of the Accommodation Letter for their reference during the semester. In the event a student has the same professor for multiple semesters, it is the student’s responsibility to share the Accommodation Letter each semester if accommodations are being requested. All information contained in the letter is considered confidential information. Professors are instructed to destroy the copy at the end of each semester and/or period of accommodation. If the Accommodation Letter is lost or misplaced, students need to contact the office for a current Letter.
