Scheduling Exams/Quizzes

1) All exams and quizzes need to be scheduled by students with disabilities. Students are encouraged to schedule all of their exams at the beginning of each semester. Students need to come into the office when scheduling more than two exams at one time. We welcome the opportunity to work with each student. When scheduling, students need to communicate which accommodations they choose to use from those they are eligible for.

2) Scheduling quizzes can pose challenges at times. When professors conduct “pop quizzes” and students are eligible for exam/quiz accommodations, students need to communicate with their professors as to how the exam accommodations can be carried out, i.e. taking or finishing the quiz with the professor or in the Office of Disability Services after class.

3) When students with disabilities are eligible for extra time, they can not skip another class in order to take the exam/quiz with extra time. Students are well served by not scheduling their classes back-to-back to allow for this time need. It is also in the best interest of students to communicate with professors ahead of time so professors are aware of when students are taking exams/quizzes. Students with disabilities need to complete exams/quizzes, with the professor's knowledge of when, within twenty-four hours of the scheduled time for the class. Extensions to this time frame are granted from professors.

4) When scheduling final exams, referencing the Schedule of Courses will be helpful. Final exams are scheduled according to when the class meets during the academic semester.

5) Students with disabilities also need to communicate with professors if they are taking their exam/quiz in the Office of Disability Services. This communication process should be done at least three days in advance of the exam. Professors are responsible for ensuring that the exam/quiz arrives in the Office of Disability Services.

6) When students are eligible for readers for their test/quiz, the Office of Disability Services may need up to six hours to convert the material from the time the exam/quiz is received in the office. If students need to be rescheduled to take exams/quizzes and the need occurs from the office, the office will notify professors via the academic departments.

7) Upon completion of exams/quizzes, academic departments are notified that the test/quiz has been completed and is available to be picked up.

*Students with disabilities need to remember that they need to share their Accommodation Letters with professors in advance of exam administration.
