Disability Services

The Office of Disability Services facilitates and coordinates accommodations and services for students with disabilities attending Emporia State University. In accordance with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act (1973) and the Americans with Disabilities Act (1990), Emporia State is committed to ensuring that equal access to its programs and activities occurs for those with disabilities. The office also focuses on helping students with disabilities make a satisfactory transition to the university. We are committed to the provision of an accessible environment for students and a graduation rate of "90% satisfaction" with services.

ESU has a long history of being an accessible university in Kansas. The student-to-teacher ratio at Emporia State provides a basis for all learners. All buildings have been adapted with elevators, accessible entrances, and electric door openers.

Students are encouraged to register with the office prior to enrolling in classes. Students can self-identify to the office by submitting documentation and making an appointment to address individual needs. Documentation requirements are unique to each disabling condition.
