o    This is a new program for the students of ESU to continue to promote Pro-Life issues.  

      March for Life

o   Each January hundreds of people venture to Washington, D.C. to participate in the Pro-life rally known as March for Life.

      Natural Family Planning

   NFP is the Sympto-Thermal method taught by CCL to aid in the spacing of pregnancies. It is completely reversible and does not produce an adverse side effects such as breast cancer or unintended abortions. It also helps to build marriages and provides a strong foundation. Contact the Didde Office for more information on dates and times of NFP.

       Respect Life Memorial

ESU Students for Life sold bricks to defer the cost of the Respect Life Memorial.  Names of loved ones or family members were inscribed in the bricks.  Donations are still being accepted to help extend the concrete around the bricks.  On Sunday, May 9, 2004 Archbishop Naumann blest the Respect Life Memorial.  Thank you to the following people:

• About the artist
• With a desire to have a custom made piece of artwork, the planning committee was made aware of a local artist named Cliff Dieker. Cliff is a native Emporian and a 1978 ESU graduate who has been enchanted by stone as long as he can remember. After acquiring an old (1880) stone school house in Lyon County, Kansas he got his first opportunity to use a hammer and chisel on rock. Repairing the structure and building a fireplace, retaining walls, and a stone porch was so satisfying he wanted to do more intricate carving, and has been sculpting stone since. He used primarily limestone. This piece is only his second work in marble.
• He is self-taught, but credits other stone carvers for a lot of tips, and his family and friends for their encouragement

• About the statue
• The planning committee desired to show that Our Lord Jesus Christ has a special love for the innocent, especially the child. It was then agreed that the statue represent Christ with a newborn child and the chosen artist was asked to present a design to represent the wishes of the committee. After agreement by all involved, the sculptor acquired a large piece of White Italian Lido marble to begin carving what has turned into a beautiful image that represents our Catholic belief in life. The 170 pound 8" x 15" base supports the 38" tall 250 pound statue of Christ and the child. It shall forever be a permanent reminder of the beauty of human life and nature, and when joined together in faith and love the two represent the divine in all His majesty.
