About UAC
Union Activities Council is a student organization designed to serve as the primary programming organization at Emporia State University. The purpose of this organization is to provide a well-rounded program of social, educational, cultural, and recreational activities for all students, faculty, administration, alumni, Emporia State University, and the Emporia community. Through encouraging student-directed activity, individual social competency and group effectiveness; the Union Activities Council plays a vital role in the development of persons; while at the same time, it is an important facet of the educational program of the university.
Union Activities Council creates, organizes and presents many of the activities (such as lectures, movies, comedy shows, or other types of entertainment) that bring excitement and life to Emporia State University. UAC does not endorse the content of any such presentations but provides such programs to introduce various viewpoints, stimulate discussion and encourage interaction among students. All of this is made possible because of funding directly from student fees.
Do not be deceived, however: this unique organization offers much more than awesome events! Being a part of UAC is a great way to meet other students, get involved with ESU, and have a lot of fun! Also, the skills and leadership abilities that you can develop in UAC will help you at ESU and beyond. Committee members learn time management, how to plan and implement a project, handle budgets, negotiate, and how to work with a team to address challenges and achieve goals. These are skills employers look for when you begin your career at ESU.
There's always room for new members! UAC needs your ideas and your involvement to make your ESU experience all it can be. You can become a member by volunteering as part of a UAC committee for as little as one hour a week. UAC's six committees (Featured Events, Live Music, Public Relations, Talks and Topics, Variety Entertainment, and Visual Arts) provide a great variety of areas to choose from. So join the fun...and bring a friend!
