Our Mission
Union Activities Council is a student organization designed to serve as the primary programming organization at Emporia State University. The purpose of this organization is to provide a well-rounded program of social, educational, cultural, and recreational activities for all students, faculty, administration, alumni, Emporia State University, and the Emporia community. Through encouraging student-directed activity, individual social competency and group effectiveness; the Union Activities Council plays a vital role in the development of persons; while at the same time, it is an important facet of the educational program of the university.
Union Activities Council creates, organizes and presents many of the activities (such as lectures, movies, comedy shows, or other types of entertainment) that bring excitement and life to Emporia State University. Union Activity Council does not endorse the content of any such presentations but provides such programs to introduce various viewpoints, stimulate discussion and encourage interaction among students. All of this is made possible because of funding directly from student fees.
Do not be deceived, however: this unique organization offers much more than awesome events! Being a part of Union Activity Council is a great way to meet other students, get involved with Emporia State University, and have a lot of fun! Also, the skills and leadership abilities that you can develop in Union Activity Council will help you at Emporia State University and beyond. Committee members learn time management, how to plan and implement a project, handle budgets, negotiate, and how to work with a team to address challenges and achieve goals. These are skills employers look for when you begin your career at Emporia State University.
There's always room for new members! Union Activity Council needs your ideas and your involvement to make your Emporia State University experience all it can be. You can become a member by volunteering as part of a Union Activity Council committee for as little as one hour a week. Union Activity Council's six committees (Featured Events, Live Music, Public Relations, Talks and Topics, Variety Entertainment, and Visual Arts) provide a great variety of areas to choose from. So join the fun...and bring a friend!
