SSIOP FAQ

- How Often Does SSIOP Meet?
SSIOP typically meets twice a month for one hour (on alternating weeks) in Visser Hall, room 312.

- Are I/O graduate students required to join SSIOP?
No. SSIOP membership welcomes undergraduates, staff, faculty, graduates from other disciplines, and anyone that is interested in I/O psychology. It is not necessary to be enrolled in the I/O Masters Program to join.

- How much is the Membership Fee?
Membership fees for the school year are $10.00.

 

I/O Master's Program FAQ

- How long will it take to complete the program?
Without deficiencies in undergraduate psychology or business courses, the program will typically take two years.
With deficiencies in undergraduate psychology or business courses, the program will usually take two to three years.

- How many first year students enroll each year?
Every year eight to twelve new students enroll in the program.

- Do I have to do a thesis and practicum?
Yes. Both a thesis and practicum are required, without exception.

- Do I have to do my practicum in Emporia?
No. Your practicum can be completed anywhere as long as it is approved by your advisor.

- How long will it take to complete my thesis from start to finish?
A thesis can usually be completed in a year's time. Students who propose by the end of their first year, can usually complete it in time to graduate by spring of their second year.

- How many students are enrolled at ESU?
Student enrollment at Emporia State University is about 6,000.

- How large is ESU's campus?
The campus of Emporia State University is about 200 acres.

- Does ESU have computer labs for student use?
Yes. ESU has computer labs in Visser Hall, in Cremer Hall, and in the William Allen White library.

- How large is the city of Emporia?
Census data from 1998 indicates that Emporia has a population of nearly 30,00.

- How far away is Emporia from larger cities?
Emporia is located in the Flint Hills of eastern central Kansas. Topeka, the capital of Kansas (pop: 124,000), is approximately a 45 minute drive north of Emporia. Kansas City, KS (pop: 141,297) and Kansas City, MO (pop: 441,574) are approximately a two hour drive northeast of Emporia. Wichita (pop: 400,000) is approximately a 1 1/2 hour drive south of Emporia.

- What does Emporia have for shopping, eating, and nightlife?
Emporia has a Super Wal-Mart that is open 24/7. It also hosts the Flint Hills Mall, which is made up of stores like The Buckle, Bath and Body Works, GNC, Radio Shack, J.C. Penney, Maurice's, Claire's, and Payless Shoes. Some of the more popular sit-down restaurants in Emporia include Applebee's, Coaches, China Buffet, Fourth Avenue Dining Company, Bruff's Sports Bar and Grille, Wings, and Pyramid Pizza. In addition, Emporia also has many common fast-food franchises.
