Greetings Brothers,
It is a great honor to serve as your Alumni Association's President. Since becoming a Phi Sig on Halloween of 1998, Phi Sigma Kappa has greatly enriched my life. Through fraternal bonds, dedication to high ideals, and opportunities to lead, I feel as though Phi Sig has and continues to make me a more rounded individual and citizen. By being taught to be just in my relations with my Phi Sig brothers and humanity in general, to seek wisdom through scholarship, and to hone an honorable character, my life has a solid foundation and my goals are made possible.
Our chapter has a rich tradition at Emporia State University. Founded as Phi Sigma Epsilon on February 20, 1910 at what was then called the Kansas Normal School, our chapter has been a part of ESU's Greek community since its inception. Over 2,000 Phi Sigs have joined our chapter since that day and Phi Sig has grown from a small, regional fraternity to a nationally recognized social fraternity on campuses throughout our nation.
The alumni association also has a great history. After many years of informal existence, the association decided to become an incorporated entity in the 1950's. After Phi Sigma Epsilon merged with Phi Sigma Kappa in the mid 1980's, the association changed its name from Phi Sigma Epsilon Alpha Chapter Alumni Association to Phi Sigma Kappa Alpha Epsilon Alumni Association. On July 9, 1984, Brothers Ronald P. Cowan, Jr., Steve St. John, Dr. Lloyd Stone, and Mike Petitjean were the stockholders listed on our new articles of incorporation under the merged name. The purpose of the association is as follows:
"To promote existence of and perpetuate Alpha Epsilon Chapter of Phi Sigma Kappa National Social Fraternity. To promote education, welfare, and fellowship of members of said association and Alpha Epsilon Chapter Phi Sigma Kappa Social Fraternity. To engage in any lawful purpose permitted of not for profit corporation in the state of Kansas."
The virtues of justice in the promotion of brotherhood, wisdom through the stimulation of scholarship, and honor in the development of character signify the essence of Phi Sig. With such a wonderful tradition to build upon, we look forward to what the future holds.
Forever and Always Damn Proud,
S
