Minutes

General Meeting, March 3, 2001

Present: Jan Bradbury, Dave DeWitt (guest), Ruthann Dirks, Marvin Dirks (guest), Nancy Groneman, Judy Hess, Lynn Hobson (guest), Sandy Keating, Jerry Pence, Gloria Rifenbark, Jade Scarlett, faye smith, Liz Voorhees.

The winter meeting was held at the Union Station in Kansas City, Missouri. Prior to the meeting the group experienced Remember the Children, Daniel's Story Exhibit, a nationally acclaimed, award-winning exhibit from the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, DC. In addition, multiple characters in a 45-minute walking tour of the Union Station entertained the group. Appreciation was expressed to Sandy Keating who arranged our meeting place and the tours.

After lunch at the Union Station, President Sandy Keating called the meeting to order. The minutes of June 27 written by Jan Bradbury (vice president) were read and approved. Liz Voorhees, treasurer, reported on our financial statement from January 1 through March 3, 2001. This statement reflects total assets of $7,044.30. Plans will be made to audit the books. Attention was also given to February 2001 Alpha Delta's membership list, supplied by Liz. Seventeen members, excluding life members, live in Kansas. The list is based on membership dues paid from the beginning of January for the year. Liz reported the cost of pins at $22.25. New membership costs $65. A motion was made by Liz that we give new members the option to buy jewelry at a later time. Motion was seconded by Nancy. Motion carried.

Jade Scarlett reported that Dr. Groneman received Outstanding Research Paper Award at the 2000 DPE National Conference. Her paper was titled "Business Demands for Web-Related Skills as Compared to Other Computer Skills." Papers for the Nashville 2001 DPE National Conference should be submitted by April 1.

Jade announced that the Mountain Plains Conference will be in Wichita in 2002. Dr. Pagel will be asked to speak.

The executive committee presented a research study they are designing. Alpha Delta members will be asked to assist in a study to determine whether a high number of computers in an elementary school also indicate that students achieve high test scores on the statewide general achievement tests over math and reading. A letter explaining the study will be sent to the membership. Nancy Groneman moved and faye smith seconded that Alpha Delta conduct the research study. Motion carried.

By April 1, members should send nominations for the Russell/Walters Award for Outstanding Kansas Business Teacher to Dr. Groneman so that the winner can be announced at our meeting in June.

Other dates to remember are:

June 20--Bank of America Call Center, Wichita, Kansas.

October 25-26--KBEA, Airport Hilton. Social on Thursday evening at KBEA for Alpha Delta members.

February 2002--Computer/Business Teacher Conference. Possible program on interview process at Payless Shoe Source.

Nancy MOVED and Gloria Rifenbark seconded that the meeting be adjourned. Motion carried.

Respectfully submitted,

Ruthann Dirks for April Renolett, Recording Secretary
