Greeks Advocating the Mature Management of Alcohol

Who we are...

We are a peer education program that focuses on alcohol abuse prevention and other student health and safety issues. Our mission is to actively promote peer education as a useful element of campus health education and wellness efforts. Through education and activities designed to increase awareness of changing student health and safety issues, GAMMA focuses on the development and promotion of positive lifestyles and decision-making skills. In addition to alcohol issues, we also support educational efforts on various health and wellness topics such as sexual responsibility, time management, stress, relationship problems and sexual assault.

What we do...

Peer education, or students helping students, is at the core of our association. Students not only become more educated on student health and safety issues, but they also develop greater self-confidence, confrontation skills, and communication skills. They become effective at problem solving, decision-making and program planning. Peer educators are not only given the opportunity to plan various social events, but will be given the opportunity to work with a group of students and create and present their own unique educational program to both the Greek community and the campus as a whole.

GAMMA conducts programs, campaigns, and projects that create awareness, educate students, and encourage responsible decision-making. We try to plan programs according to the needs of our campus. During the 2007-2008 year, GAMMA co-sponored events such as the Greek Model Risk Mangagement Party, keynote lecturer Brett Sokolow and the ESU Safe Spring Break program.
