Citizenship

Citizenship is a commitment to being an active and engaged member of the community.  Quality citizenship involves participating in social, environmental, political, service, and philanthropic activities for the betterment of the community.  Giving back to the community is extremely important to our fraternity and sorority members. Every year, Greek students perform thousands of hours of community service and donate thousands of dollars to local and national charities.  Their commitment to the campus community and the Emporia community is an inspiration to many, and the Greeks have garnered much well-earned respect for their service and philanthropic efforts over the years.

Citizenship in Action

  • Fraternity and sorority members founded Up 'til Dawn in 2007 to raise money for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.  Greek students comprised roughly 75% of the program's participants, whose efforts raised over $22,400 for the hospital in the 2007-2008 year.
  • In addition to the St. Jude fundraising program, chapters held their own fundraising projects, and collectively raised over $15,000 to support various charity organizations.
  • In addition to individual chapter community service projects, the Greek community collectively gave over 300 hours of service to the Emporia Peter Pan Playground rebuilding project in spring 2008.
