John Lehman - 2004
John Lehman retired from teaching at Emporia State in 2004 after 40 years in ESU's Department of Communication and Theatre. The John C. Lehman Scholarship in Communication was funded by his former students, colleagues, and friends in honor of his commitment to ESU, and to teaching.
Virgina Higgins - 2006
Virginia "Ginny" Higgins recently retired from ESU after teaching in the Department of Communication and Theatre since 1964. For thirty years Professor Higgins directed the department's teacher education program, giving it up in 1999 to become director of the university's Ethnic and Gender Studies program. She was named the winner of the prestigious Ruth Schillinger Award (1998-99), annually given to an individual who has made significant and sustained contributions to the lives of women at Emporia State, and she was the first person to be named twice to receive the Outstanding College Teacher of Speech award from the Kansas Speech Association.
Edward McGlone - 2007
Ed McGlone came to ESU in 1987 after holding teaching and administrative positions at Wayne State University, Southern Illinois University and Mississippi State University. He did his undergraduate work at Ohio State University and his Ph.D. at Ohio University. Ed has published several books and many articles reporting research in communication. He received an Outstanding Young Teacher Award (many years ago) from the Central States Communication Association, a "Top Three Award" recognition for research from the National Communication Association, the Paideia Award for faculty excellence from Mississippi State University, and ESU´s 2004 Liberal Arts and Sciences Award for Excellence in Teaching. Ed teaches courses in conflict resolution, research methods, communication theory, and public speaking.
