Nancy J. Pontius joined the Emporia State University theatre faculty in 1995 as a member of the design faculty with her primary area of expertise in Scenic Design. Currently Nancy is an Associate Professor teaching such classes as: Introduction to Theatrical Design, Scenic Design, Stage Management, Scene Painting, Theatrical Makeup , and Theatre Appreciation. Nancy holds a BFA in Art from Miami University (Oxford, Ohio), and an MFA in Theatrical Design from Southern Methodist University (Dallas, Texas). Nancy's training at SMU was under the critical eye of the noted American design team of William and Jean Eckart. Nancy's academic career has included serving as a visiting professor at Miami University, scenic designer and special lecturer at Providence College (Providence, Rhode Island), and Assistant Professor/Scenic and Costume Designer at Northeast Missouri State University. Nancy's professional credits include: Assistant Production Manager/Technical Director for The Dallas Opera, and Art Director for Dallas Display Company Inc. Her design and scene painting credits include: Six Flags Astro World (Houston, Texas), Wilsonart Corporation (Dallas, Texas), Kenner Toys and Parker Brothers (Toy Fair, New York, City), Southwestern Bell Telephone Museum (Dallas,Texas), on location scenic artist for the television drama “Dallas”(Dallas, Texas), The Southwest Oklahoma Dance Alliance (Lawton, Oklahoma), The Boy Scouts of America Order of the Arrow Conference (Bloomington, Indiana), and various colleges and universities from New England to the southwest.
Her ESU designs include I Do ! I Do! , Macbeth, The Sound of Musice, Three Sisters, South Pacific, Grease, Much Ado About Nothing, On Golden Pond, Camelot, The Philadelphia Story, The Will Rogers Follies, The Matchmaker, The King and I, The Mystery of Edwin Drood, Footloose!, The Cocoanuts, Arms and the Man, America's Songbook and Noises Off.
